Tuesday, May 14: Social Sleuths: Using Social Media in Investigations  

Paula Lavigne 

Investigative reporter, ESPN's "Outside the Lines" 

  

Lavigne, an investigative journalist with an MBA from Creighton University, teaches ESPN's reporting staff how to ferret useful information from social media. She was an investigative reporter for the Dallas Morning News and Des Moines Register before joining ESPN.  

  

She was part of the sports station's team who dug into the Internet hoax targeting Notre Dame standout Manti Te'o. See more of her work here.

Tuesday, July 9: Uncovering Medicaid Fraud

Medicaid is intended to provide medical services to people with low incomes and disabilities. But unscrupulous health care providers find ways to dupe the system.

Collins will explain how Medicaid fraud control units ferret out a variety of scams and use criminal and civil proceedings to seek justice and reclaim taxpayers' money.

The Heartland Chapter of the ACFE hosts a chapter meeting on the second Tuesday of every other month. It features a presentation that qualifies for one hour of continuing professional education to help maintain your certification.
